More about Laura

Laura Schwab-Reese, MA, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Public Health at Purdue University. Her interdisciplinary research examines the benefits and potential harms of technology-facilitated help-seeking among children and youth experiencing violence. Drawing on public health, behavioral science, and computational methods, she studies how digital technologies, including social media, online support services, and artificial intelligence, shape experiences of violence, access to support, and opportunities for prevention and intervention.

Laura founded the Violence Intervention, Support, Technology, and Action (VISTA) research team at Purdue, which has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and multiple foundations. VISTA’s work bridges research, practice, and policy, with an emphasis on developing and evaluating technologies that are safe, ethical, and responsive to the needs of vulnerable populations. Laura also serves on the Board of Ethics for boisei labs, a technology-for-good venture studio, holds editorial positions with several public health and family violence journals, and is a past president of the Society for Advancement of Violence and Injury Research (SAVIR).
